Saint Elizabeth´s cathedral is built at the peak gothic style. Today´s cathedral stands on the site of the one-time parochial church which burnt down around the year 1370 and whose patroness was also saint Elizabeth. Construction of the cathedral began around the year 1378 and was carried out in various stages. The year 1508 is considered the year of work completion on the cathedral. Construction therefore, lasted longer than 100 years. In the years to come the cathedral was damaged several times by natural disasters, resulting in several repairs. The most extensive of these were in the years 1877 - 1896.
Today´s look of saint Elizabeth´s cathedral maintains a five-nave disposition with an intersection of the main and traverse aisles and polygonal presbyterium. The northern steeple has a height of 58.5m in the lengthwise axis they measure 60.5m in the traverse axis 39.5m.
Saint Elizabeth´s cathedral was proclaimed as a national cultural monument along with the Urban tower and saint Micheal´s chapel.
